CHB EXAM PREP is designed for those individuals who plan to sit for the Customs Broker’s Exam. Classes are held in the Socratic method. The instructor and the students ask and answer questions. Since the goal of the participants is preparation for the exam, answers to questions by the students with minimal assistance from the instructor is the ultimate goal. All answers must be supported with Regulation or Tariff cites.  Prior to each class, students complete reading assignments from the Leaphart class textbook, the Regs (Title 19 of the U.S. Code), and the Harmonized Tariff. After reading the assignments, the student completes a timed examination. Each class begins with a review of questions on the reading material. This is followed by a timed quiz, discussion and more Q+A. This is not a lecture course. At this level, we assume the student has a strong understanding of INCO terms, entry, valuation methods, classification rules and marking requirements. The Customs Brokers exams are held on or about the first Monday of April and October. After passing the exam, the applicant has 3 years in which to apply for a broker’s license.

At the time of application for a license, the applicant then must be 21 years of age, and a U.S. citizen.
